Health Benefits Of Smoothies + a recipe

by Viktoriya Khoma July 19, 2016

We all want to know how to improve our health, energy levels and overall wellbeing & sometimes it can feel like a bit of a demanding and time consuming task. With our lives getting even busier, we need something easy and quick to make while keeping it nutritionally balanced.
We all know that eating more vegetables is one of the best ways to improve our health and digestive system but do we really get enough of them daily? How about our kids, what do they have to say about eating broccoli, kale, spinach or other "yummy " and " weird " looking things on their plates. Trying to convince them that these things are healthy & good for their little tummies can be daunting.
Making smoothies could be the answer. It's easy, it's quick and delicious. Also, unlike juicing , you get all the goodness of the vegetables and fruits as you are also keeping the fibre and not just the liquid and sugar. This is vital and very important especially if you want to control your blood sugar and energy levels.
Smoothies that contain fruits and vegetables will provide you with a lasting source of energy. Fruits are a good source of energy, but eaten alone will only provide short bursts of energy.
By adding more vegetables to your smoothies it will make your smoothies lower in calories and very filling. If you’re trying to lose weight, green smoothies will help fight hunger and cravings while helping the pounds melt off.
One of my favourite smoothies is this one right here.
I use:
Banana
1/2 avocado
1/2 Apple
Handful of spinach
Kale
1tbsp of raw cacao
1/2 glass of organic almond milk
If you prefer it a bit sweeter, simply add some organic honey to the smoothie.
You won't even taste any of the vegetables. This smoothie is creamy, delicious, filling and most importantly healthy.
Drinking smoothies on daily basis has many other benefits . You will be more hydrated, nourished with vitamins and minerals and you'll never get bored as there are so many recipes or you can just use your own creativity to come up with new ones.
The best thing about smoothies is that you can adjust them specifically to your health and taste preferences. If you are trying to burn off fat, go for green smoothies that are based on vegetables. You will be getting all the amazing nutritional benefits and much less sugar. If you love your fruits, just like I do, keep those sweet smoothies to first the part of the day and preferably after your exercise.
I would like to share with you another recipe and great to use with your smoothie maker. How about we make a super healthy and completely raw mousse as a desert . How often do we feel like having something sweet after lunch or even dinner & having cookies or 1/2 of the cheese cake sounds like taking 10 steps back from your health and fitness goals.
My favourite is chocolate and orange mousse.
Ingredients:
 1/2 banana
1/2 avocado
1/2 of peeled orange
juice from other 1/2 of orange
1 tsp of coconut oil
1-2 tsp of raw cacao
pinch of cinnamon
nutmeg
vanilla
1-2 tbsp of organic almond milk if needed
Directions:
1 - Put all of the ingredients into your smoothie maker, and blend everything until perfectly smooth.
2 - Serve and enjoy
As you can see, it's super simple, quick and easy to eat healthy. So, no more excuses.
Let's start blending and mixing our way to a healthier life .
